How many years have you been Home-Tech employee? It will be 23 years next month.
What other positions have you held?
I started out in the Fort Myers office for 1 year then moved to Port Charlotte where we opened up the Northern Branch. I ran and managed that operation for 12 years. Starting out in a new territory allowed me to learn every aspect of this business from customer service, selling air conditioning, appliances, service agreements, accounting, managing a growing staff and building a customer base. The experience I acquired from the years spent there gave me a greater understanding of how each Home-Tech department interacts with each other, and the ability to make sure we integrate them smoothly. Approximately 10 years ago I returned to the South office to become the Assistant Service Manager and then became the Service Operations Manager about 3 years ago.
Tell us about your role as the Service Operations Manager. How difficult is it managing this department for Home-Tech?
Service Operations involves managing the research, purchasing, scheduling, warranty and parts departments. Basically, our department is involved with getting the Home-Tech technicians and the customers’ part orders obtained quickly and efficiently. Honestly, managing these areas is easier than it sounds because of all of the conscientious and knowledgeable staff we have working in these departments!
How has Home-Tech changed since you started?
Seeing this company grow from a few technicians and employees to over 120 but still maintain a close-knit and genuinely caring “community” has been amazing. Of course, the technological advances we have made in how we run service and communicate with the technicians has made a huge impact.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
To me, the most rewarding aspect of my job is seeing the employees here “jump through hoops” to get a customer’s needs taken care of. It’s awesome to see such a large group of people who are all on the same page!
How many organizations are you involved with in the community outside of Home-Tech? And which ones are they?
I am a Board Member and Fundraising Co-Chair for Partners for Breast Cancer Care.
What is the best piece of advice you ever received?
“Listen to your gut (instincts).” And I do!
What advice do you give to newer employees?
Hang in there! Sometimes this place can get a little overwhelming. But, at the end of the day, Home-Tech is really a great place to work.
Tell us a secret?
I am quite sure that if I had any resemblance to a good singing voice or musical talent – I would have been a musician/singer. Trust me I won’t be quitting my day job any time soon.
