The first day of school in Collier County is August 17th; Lee County and Sarasota start on August 24th. But, our Home-Tech apprentices start this week and we couldn’t be more excited!

Welcome Home-Tech Apprentices
Every year, we happily welcome new technicians to Home-Tech’s Best Tech University or BT University at our Fort Myers Regional Offices. And we don’t accept just anybody – we review applications to find the very best apprentices to join our Home-Tech family. You see, we’re all about nurturing and investing in our team because they’re not just employees – they’re owners. Home-Tech is proud to be an employee-owned business. Not only are the wages and the health insurance great, we offer stock options in our successful 34-year old company.
Successful Apprentices Through The Years
Starting out as an apprentice is a fantastic way to learn the business of service repair from the ground up. History has shown us that apprenticeship has been proven path to success in all walks of life. Lots of famous folks started out as apprentices:
- Before his rise to fame, Elvis Presley trained as an electrician apprentice – guess it was good to have a trade to fall back on just in case the rock & roll thing didn’t work out.
- Leonardo de Vinci didn’t just pick up a paintbrush and effortlessly create the Mona Lisa; he was an apprentice painter first – and that was back in the 15th Apprenticeship programs have been going on for thousands of years.
- He’s famous these days for “Lord of The Rings”and “X Men”, but Sir Ian McKellen has been acting in movies, TV, and onstage since the 1950s – and he started out with a 3-year apprenticeship at the Belgrade Theatre Company in Coventry, England.
- Foodies will be interested to learn that Chef Gordon Ramsay who has hosted a variety of successful cooking shows, learned his craft from the ground up – he was an apprentice in the catering industry.
- And who knew that journalist Anderson Cooper was an intern/apprentice with the CIA when he was just 19? Those investigative roots definitely paid off.
Who knows what kind of success could come out of Home-Tech’s BT University this session? Our new Training Manager Brian Schraufnagl is optimistic, “Our 8- week program has four apprentices in class for two days a week. Plus, they ride along and learn from qualified technicians the remainder of the week. After they pass the course, they’re issued their own truck and on the road to success!”
