On October 17th, employees from Home-Tech, along with a total of 669 other supporters of breast cancer health met at Jet Blue Park in Fort Myers to form the largest human pink ribbon. This event was sponsored by Partners for Breast Cancer Care and Susan G. Komen. This was the first time an event to form the largest human pink ribbon was ever held in the United States. As men and women arrived in their bright pink shirts and milled around with pink umbrellas in hand a drone flew overhead capturing photographs.

The Pop of Pink Umbrellas
In order to form the ribbon, participants stood on an outlined ribbon marked on the grass in the field next to Jet Blue Park. Each umbrella was obtained by donating $20. Up to two people could stand under on single pink umbrella. The proceeds benefitted both Partners for Breast Cancer Care and Susan G. Komen Southwest Florida.
Diana White, Janet Runkles, Clarence Love, Paige Godfrey, Margo McQueen, Jennifer Pierel, Rachel Welch, Jackie Ryan, Thom Rhode and Pam Marino attended from Home-Tech, along with friends and family members. Pam Marino is the Vice President of Partners for Breast Cancer Care.
Employee Support
“I thought it was a great inaugural event! It was a fun, easy way to participate in the Partners for Breast Center Care fundraising efforts. Excited about my new pink umbrella! I would do it again,” said Jackie Ryan.
“It was great to be part of the event and support the fight against breast cancer, it was nice to see so much support from our community!” said Paige Godfrey.
“It was a great event to be with like-minded people who have either been personally affected with breast cancer or there to share support for a cure. To set a world record for a great cause was all the better – a home run!” said Clarence Love.
“It was such a beautiful day and such a lovely crowd of supportive people. I lost my Mom to breast cancer two years ago and found it encouraging to attend such an event with my friends and co-workers. I was touched by it, got a little tearful. I like to think that these kinds of efforts will make a difference for fighting cancer in the future,” said Margo McQueen.
The Largest Human Pink Ribbon
“I feel pretty good about the turnout for this inaugural event. Next year I hope to get more media coverage behind it and see this event grow by leaps and bounds every year. It is a new and unique twist on Breast Cancer awareness that hasn’t been done in this area before, it was also the first time we partnered with Susan G. Komen for an event.
One of our own Board members, Gail Marra, came up with the idea of using the pink umbrellas to form the Pink Ribbon and was very diligent in contacting Guinness World Records to document the event,” said Pam Marino.
