When you think of piecework, you might think of employees on a manufacturing line getting paid for each piece they produce. Up until the late 1960’s, there were a lot of employees getting paid like this. Who can ever forget the comical episode of “I Love Lucy” where Lucy and Ethel were trying to keep up with the impossible flow of candy to be boxed on the treadmill? At Home-Tech we ask this question. Does it work in today’s world to pay air conditioning installers by the piece? In Home-Tech’s opinion it does not and we feel we should even warn you against hiring a company who practices this.

Piecework? Hourly Wage is Best
Home-Tech’s air conditioning installers are paid by the hour because we don’t want them cutting corners with your air conditioning installation. It’s not in your best interest to have a crew install very complicated, expensive equipment as fast as they can go. There are so many steps to a safe and operational installation. Please see our 18 Distinctions video to learn more about how complex the installation process truly is.
The Many Problems
Local companies that pay by the piece find customers having many problems after the installation. The work isn’t done correctly because of the hurry of the installers. The charge needs to be balanced correctly. The transitions and duct work need to be correct for there to be a good seal. One of the corners piecework installers cut is installing new plenums. These steps are important, take time and can’t be skipped. So, be warned. Don’t hire Lucy and Ethel for your installation!
Home-Tech’s Goal is Your Complete Satisfaction
Here’s what we’ve concluded after 38 years of air conditioning installations, repairs and maintenance. Pay installers by the hour. Supervise them. Have them take their time and it will get done right. After all, doing great work is the way to do business. That’s how Home-Tech keeps our Members cool and happy in the southwest Florida heat.
