Hurricane Irma came in with a frenzy and did a number on a lot of our stop lights. They are out! There have already been many accidents and near misses because people don’t know how things work when the power is out on a traffic light.
Home-Tech has a lot of technicians and employees out on the roads trying to get to our Members and help them with needed repairs. It’s probably been quite awhile since most of us took Driver’s Ed so we thought a little refresher on this topic would be good. We want to be sure everyone knows the rules at traffic light power outage situations so no one gets hurts.
Traffic Light Power Outage Becomes 4 Way Stops
If you see a stop light that is not operating you can’t just blow through it! It immediately becomes treated like a 4 way stop intersection. Follow these rules:
- Slow down and come to a complete STOP.
- Check to see if any other vehicles around you are coming up to the intersection.
- Make sure you stop within the indicated lines on the road. Move forward to see better only after you’ve completely stopped.
- If your car is the only car at the stop then you have the right of way and can proceed.
- Cars leave the 4 way stop in the same order in which they arrived at the stop. If you get there first you get to leave first. If you are last, you leave last.
- If two cars arrive simultaneously the car that is the furthest on the right goes first.
- Be careful. Just because you know the rules, it doesn’t mean everyone else does.
Everyone stay safe on the roads and we are here to help with any appliance repairs or needed AC repairs.
